A likable detective with no obvious flaws is an unusual protagonist these days, but Caro Ayre sees other characters provide a balance of greed and double dealing. A reclusive doctor’s rescue of a young woman with amnesia adds a dash of romance to make this an entertaining if undemanding read, which for this reviewer, made The Mallaig Link perfect for air travel.
The story is well constructed, with suspense and a bit of romance. The characters are believable and well formed. Each new twist kept me wanting to read more.
